.:PROJECTS:.

At Kappa Eta Kappa, one of the things we are very involved in is making interesting projects. More often than not they involve electrical engineering - the magic responsible for the information revolution and almost every little labor saving gadget you own.

Current Projects

Rail Gun
(For Expo 2007)
To continue the tradition of KHK creating electrical devices to wow the people, Joel Kenny and Jon Kokott with help from others, plan to build upon previous coil gun idea/project and create something bigger and better.

RFID Door Look
(For Expo 2007)
KHK is moving into the future and 'teching' out the house. Several members are working to implement a HID/RIFD reader into the front doorlock to make entrance into the house easier for KHK members. And it's just plain cool.

Past Projects

Arcade Machine
(Engineering Expo 2005)
Ever feel like playing Pacman(tm) or Mortal Kombat in the old Arcade style? At KHK you can on our MAME computer. Built for Engineering Expo 2005, this realistic arcade console makes you feel back in the old arcades shoveling out quarters to beat those games. Except no quarters required here at KHK.

Soda Machine Card Reader
(Embedded System 2002)
Want a soda and don't have a quarter? Why not use your UW ID, and pay for the sodas that way? That's exactly what Tim Payne and Nick Offerman did to our soda machine.

Computer Controlled Disco Lighting
(Engineering Expo 2001 Individual First Place Winner)
Part of the extra style and fun of our well known parties is due to the computer controlled lights, designed by Tim Payne, 4 year member of KHK.

1 KW Audio Amplifier
One of KHK's projects for the 2001 Engineering Expo was a 1 KW audio amplifier built by Ryan McCants, Avinash Mahajan, Joseph Paiz and Ned Lebens. This amp is a 2-channel MOSFET based amplifier. Stop by KHK for a demonstration!

Acceletron 2000
(Engineering Expo 1999 People's Choice Award Winner)
KHK was the winner in the People's Choice Award, voted number 1 by the thousands that attended. Check out the story of our coil gun, a neat little device that is capable of shooting holes in soda cans! All through electrical power. Designed and built by Ned Lebens and others.

Tesla Coil
Check out our Tesla coil, it shoots 7 inch sparks pictured. Now up to 10 inch! We explain some of the physics and show some pictures that we took of it. Built by Ned Lebens and Darvin Hansen.
